The enforcement of RoHS (Retriction of Hazardous Substances) by EU on 1 Jul 2006 was aimed to reduce toxic e-waste generated from the dumping of electrical and electronic products. By working closely with various industries in Malaysia, NML has the opportunity to setup our laboratory for the testing of Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Cadmium (Cd), Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6+), Polybrominated Byphenyls (PBBs) and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether (PBDEs) in 2003 prior to the enforcement of RoHS.
To date, besides testing for the fulfillment of RoHS, NML is serving the industrial raw material suppliers and manufacturing industries etc. for the monitoring of substances such as SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) as required by REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical Substances); Phthalates compounds (BEHP, DBP, BBP, DINP, DIDP and DOP) as required by CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) for child use items and toys; selected heavy metals (As, Sb, Ba, Cd, Cr, Pb, Hg, and Se) as required by toy safety regulatory body from various countries including Malaysia; the analysis of food contact material as required by FDA 21 CFR and EU Directive; azo-compounds commonly used in dye and paint etc.
On top of regulation imposed onto consumer products, industrial products such as oil, coal and tar are also being monitored for the emission of PAH (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon) from fuel burning activities. The PAH, a groups of potential atmospheric pollutant, in these products which are to being controlled are Naphthalene, Acenaphthalene, Fluorene, Phenantherene, Anthracene, Fluoranthene, Pyrene, Benzo(a)anthracene etc.
As a testing institution authorized by CPSC and MDTCC (Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperation and Consumerism, a.k.a. KPDNKK), NML is all out to serve our customers on this very dynamic field of testing. Our consultants are alert of the latest regulation enforced for controlled substances and they are able to provide technical advice on the analysis involved as well as the regulatory requirements.
