Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) Inspection

Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) system is an engineering control system whereby capturing the emission at source and transporting it to a safe emission point or to a filter/scrubber. This ventilation system is critical as it able to reduce worker exposure to airborne contaminants (dust, mist, fume, vapour, gas) in the workplace before people breathe them in and protect workers' health.

Testing and examination of local exhaust ventilation (LEV) system has to be carried out at least every 12 months or at shorter interval as specified by the engineer. The purpose of the testing and examination is to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of the local exhaust ventilation (LEV) system and to detect malfunction of the system.

Testing and examination also need to be done during commissioning of a new installed local exhaust ventilation system as to verify that the system is working as per design. These data are the baseline data that will be used for comparison when subsequent testing and examination to be Department Of Occupational Safety and Health 21 Guidelines On Occupational Safety and Health for design, Inspection, Testing and examination of local exhaust ventilation system carried out, in order to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of the system and to detect any malfunction in the system.
